DIY Chef's Hat

Here is a quick tutorial on this adorable chef hat. I made these last year for our Valentine Sweet Shop Party. These are great for a kids baking party, pizza party or any kind of cooking party!

You will need:
shower cap
cardstock
hot glue
scissors
ruler

Start with 2 sheets of cardstock. I cut mine down to 6" by11". I wanted the band to be a bit wider.

Fold your 2 sheets in half. They you will glue those sheets together so you end up with one long folded sheet.

I added decorative tape to the girls hats.

Now take your shower cap and cut 4 slits in the elastic band on the inside of the cap. I forgot to take a picture of the gluing process. But it's very easy. Measure the band around the child's head and either staple or glue it. Then put the band over the opening of the shower cap. You might need to adjust the width of the cap to fit in the paper band. That is why we cut the slits in the elastic. Finish off by gluing the two pieces together.

Doesn't my nephew look super cute with his chef hat and apron?! The kids had a blast! Check out my Valentine Sweet Shop Party for more pictures! Thanks for stopping by! Have a great day!!

Valentine Sweet Shop Party

Valentine's day is right around the corner. So I thought now would be the perfect time to share my photos of last year's party. In the next couple weeks I've got a Pirate Party to plan for my nephew's birthday and a spa party for my niece. So I won't be throwing a valentines party this year. This was the first Valentines party that I threw. Normally my husband and I go out for a romantic dinner, but ever since having my baby girl, it seems like every holiday becomes more about the kids. And more reasons for me to plan fun parties for the kids!

I bought these favor boxes at the dollar store and since our theme was Sweet Shop, I wanted them to look like a shop with an awning. So I spruced them up by gluing striped paper on the top portion and leaving about 2 inches of a flap. I think they turned out super cute!

Here is the table set up. I had their favor boxes, heart shaped place settings, heart doilies, hand made chefs hats, hand made aprons, and super sweet centerpieces with m&m's, heart shaped marshmallows, and heart shaped rice crispy treats.

My adorable nephew wearing his handmade apron and chef hat. The apron was made from a hand towel. I watched so many tutorials on how to make the chefs hats. Most of them used tissue paper and card stock. I love watching tutorials and reading other blogs for inspiration. And sometimes I come up with an idea that I haven't seen. These hats were so easy!! I used shower caps and card stock. Since the shower caps already have the round shape, I didn't have to do much, just staple the card stock band to the cap! Done!!

Okay people, I have to say I am super proud of myself! The very first time making macaroons and they turned out beautiful!!! They were not easy, though. If I tell you how long it took me to makes these babies, you will laugh. But only because I had to run out and buy a sifter. The one I had wasn't doing the job. And after a few moments of frustration, I almost gave up. I'm so glad I didn't.You can imagine how happy and proud i was when I saw they turned out great!

My mom helped with the baking. She made delicious blueberry scones. We also made mini heart shaped apple pies, and heart shaped rice crispy treats with red and pink candy melts drizzled on them.

A close up of my raspberry macaroons, because why not. Haha!

The kids had a blast decorating cupcakes and cookies! We also had a game of bingo and I made an activity sheet with puzzles and images for them to color.
Of course the best part of the party was eating our beautifully decorated treats!!
